MARKET IN YOUR DIARY

Leith Market is a new permanent covered market offering a high quality mix of food, fashion, design, antiques, furniture, books and music. Monthly activities based at the Shore will integrate with Edinburgh’s existing festivals and will contribute to the capital’s character and reputation throughout the year.

Graphic Partners, a design and brand communication agency based in Edinburgh was commissioned to design the Market’s brand and initial promotional material. The agency suggested using the traditional blue and white striped canvas of the stalls as a graphic starting point,with the word “Leith” cleverly hidden within it. The concept implies that the Market and its location are inextricably linked, building recognition for both.

The identity has been applied to a variety of different promotional materials; from stationery to promotional posters. Where appropriate, “Leith” is treated in different subtle processes, e.g. blind embossed on the stationery, gloss UV varnished on flyers or shown as a very pale tint on posters.

“Graphic Partners’ input has been essential in getting the Market to its current position,” says Sophie Lidgate, Managing Director of Leith Market. “Markets often fail due to lack of promotion, so our focus has been on investing in serious, professional help with brand development and a marketing strategy. Graphic Partners’ work has insured maximum exposure for our activities. Awareness is already very strong and feedback has been extremely positive. The work has successfully communicated Leith Market’s offer.”

Leith Market will launch on March 19th 2005 and will continue to operate every weekend from Commercial Quay in Leith, Edinburgh.
